Winter Warming Horchata

A traditional Spanish or Latin American beverage, known as the ‘drink of the gods’ comes with you to your couch!

This dairy-free wonder drink is made from soaked almonds and brown rice, and seasoned with cinnamon, making it the perfect, creamy, plant-based hot drink.

It is a nice cozy addition to your day, and super easy to make.

Here’s What You’ll Need

Ingredients:

– 24 oz, purified water

– 1/4 cup, almonds

– 1/4 cup, brown rice

– 1/4 cup oats or additional brown rice

– 3 cinnamon sticks, whole

– 1 tsp, liquid sweetener of choice

– 1 tsp, vanilla extract

– 1/16 tsp/pinch of himalayan salt

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Soak the almonds, rice, oats and cinnamon sticks in purified water overnight.
  2. Rinse and strain the contents well. Set aside the cinnamon sticks.
  3. Add the almonds, rice and oats to a high speed blender along with 24 oz of the purified water and blend on high until a creamy consistency is achieved.
  4. Once the mixture is very blended, use a strainer to remove any pulp.
  5. Feel free to reserve the pulp for other culinary purposes or to dehydrate for a gluten-free flour blend.
  6. Return to the blender and blend the sweetener, vanilla and salt to combine.
  7. Add to saucepan and heat on low heat until a low simmer is achieved.
  8. Enjoy warm. Optional to serve with a cinnamon stick and sprinkle of cinnamon powder.
